The 9th March saw the cricketers get their go and they did not disappoint. The U11′s hosted Terrington whilst the U13′s were on the road to the same opponents.
U13 Rob Bradley had an outstanding game with both bat & ball as he notched up 49 and also took 2 wickets. The game finished as a draw with Woodleigh being set 131 to win, and finishing on 90-2.
The U11′s faired even better and managed to win by 50 runs with Ed Bradley having a solid start to the season with a few runs and wickets!

Today (14th) sees the U13s travel to Terrington for a badminton fixture, 4:30pm start.

The U13 match on Monday with the Minster School is very doubtful too, especially with the forecast for Sunday, but a decision will be made on Monday morning.

The next sporting fixture after this is on Wednesday, which is an U11 Mixed Rounders match at St Martin’s Ampleforth.

The combined Woodleigh and Bramcote were victorious at the Terrington 7s on Wednesday. Needing to win 1 match at least to qualify for the Shield competition, the boys defeated Mount St Mary’s in a nervy affair. In a difficult group, a strong 1st half performance was ruined by poor tackling against Sedbergh whilst power and pace proved too much against Easingwold. The crunch match with Mount St Marys followed and tries from Selvey, W. Bradley and Kidger ensured Woodleigh’s progression despite one more group game left. The final group game was with Merchiston, who had already won the group and therefore with both sides not wanting to risk injury,  a rather less intense game was contested with Merchiston coming out on top.

The Shield Semi-Final followed against St Olaves B and a 15-5 victory was achieved with tries from Donaghy, Selvey & Kidger.

Ryedale awaited the winners and the first play of the game resulted in a Ryedale try. However, Woodleigh fought their way back into the game and led at half time 7-5. A further converted try was scored before Ryedale hit back with another unconverted effort. However, Woodleigh held on to finish the rugby season in great style!

A great day for the boys and an especially good day who were playing their final matches for the school!

The U11 Girls won the Annual Queen Ethelburga’s Cross Country event last Friday. The team consisted of Lucy Cawkwell, Esme Hudson, Chloe Howarth and Tilly Fenton. Lucy brought the team home, finishing in the silver medal position, whilst Esme was one behind and brought home the bronze. Tilly and Chloe were not far adrift and finished 5th and 6th respectively. This meant a final team total of 16, a score impossible to beat!

A great effort by the girls and hopefully even more to come in the next few Cross Country meetings!
