Music
Every child has the opportunity to develop their musical talents at Woodleigh. Weekly music lessons lead to performances in stage musicals, live cabarets, ensemble bands and singing events each term.
All children can experience a free taster instrumental lesson. The choice of instruments is almost unlimited and tuition is provided by experienced professional musicians. Many pupils choose to take part in bands, ranging from the school brass band to contemporary pop groups.
Music is taught each week to whole classes. All the music teachers are professional musicians who perform regularly in bands, locally and nationally. There are considerable opportunities for children to play music at Woodleigh.
School musicians provide backing for drama performances, musicals and an annual cabaret revue. A brass ensemble provides accompaniment to hymn singing in assemblies and for monthly church services. The school choir practices weekly and performs regularly throughout the school year. A rock band for years seven and eight can be heard on Friday evenings.
Children are entered into grade music exams for all the major examination boards with notable success. There are frequent opportunities for children to play instruments in front of an audience, including other pupils and parents.
