Overview
The children are given the opportunity to explore and develop their talents in these areas at
every level. Inspiring and relevant materials and equipment are in each of the classrooms. All lessons are taught by a specialists; each an accomplished expert in their own areas of art, design and technology and sculpture.Pupils’ work is always exhibited around the school. A major exhibition is on show each founders day. The art department is well resourced and includes a kiln. The art teacher is an accomplished artist in her own right.Children at Woodleigh are encouraged to design and build complete products from inception to production. Recently, children developed an idea for a top trumps style game based on nutritional information. Pupils have also developed an innovative eco-friendly sustainable bike rack called a Bikeslot.Younger pupils have created large freestanding wooden garden sculptures of caterpillars, mushrooms and ladybirds. Pupils also learn how to design an build effective set designs for drama productions. Towards the end of each Spring Term, the pupils’ talent for DT is showcased in an entrepreneurial competition, the Lion’s Lair, in which teams of pupils from regional schools compete to bid for investments for their product.
