A home from home

Dormitories are bright, warm and friendly and children are grouped according to age. Close contact is kept with parents and all pupils have email and phone access and opportunities to write home.

A wide ranging programme of activities and excursions are organised for boarders each weekend. Shopping trips, seaside visits, barbeques, mountain biking, cricket nets, swimming and cinema trips are just some of the possibilities.

Woodleigh has many decades of experience providing education for overseas students. Students from Hong Kong, Italy, Nigeria, United States, New Zealand, South Korea, Germany and many more countries have enjoyed a unique and tailored education.

A well qualified TEFL teacher and enthusiastic staff ensure a smooth immersion into life at Woodleigh. Travel arrangements, including visas, are handled by the school office and all travel to and from airports is escorted.

Woodleigh is a boarding school run with a child centred approach and a family atmosphere. Woodleigh provides completely flexible boarding; full, weekly, occasional, or any other requirement.

The school has considerable experience integrating foreign students from China, Hong Kong, Korea, France, Germany, Italy, USA, and Saudi Arabia. The dormitories are attractive and have been recently refurbished. There is a varied program of sports fixtures, trips and other activities provided for boarders at weekends.

The welfare of the children is the responsibility of all the staff.  The special care required for children who board is provided by the Headmaster, together with a resident Matron.

In common with all boarding schools, Woodleigh is inspected by the Commission for Social Care Inspectorate.  Woodleigh is justifiably proud of the secure, happy environment it provides for children.

It is essential that a close link be established between the School and home.  The Friends of Woodleigh Association was established in 1992 to encourage new parents to become involved quickly in the life of the School through the promotion of social events.

For parents living abroad, or some distance from the School, great care is taken to ensure that good communication provides constant family contact as well as the reassurance of first hand reports from the Headmaster.

The children write a letter home each week and very much enjoy receiving the replies.  A telephone is available for outgoing calls at any time; and incoming calls may be received at convenient times in the day.  The children all have access to e-mail with secure mailboxes.

There are frequent opportunities for parents and family to visit, details of which are given in the termly fixture card.  Plays, school matches, concerts, lectures and dances are popular occasions for families to visit. In addition to the half-term breaks each term, there are two fixed leave-out weekends each term which run from 3.30 p.m. on the Friday to 8.30 a.m. on the Monday – boarders may return on the Sunday after 6.00 p.m.  Concurrent with these times, Activity Weekends are arranged to extend the range of Outdoor Pursuits on offer.
